On the night of the 23rd of November, the names of the restaurants of the Spain and Portugal 2017 Michelin Guide were published. The event took place in the Mas Marroch country house of the Celler de Can Roca (Girona). The awarding is as follows: 22 first stars, 7 second stars and only one restaurant, Lasarte (Barcelona), belonging to chef Martín Berasategui, entering the three star club. Additionally, Lasarte is the city’s first and only restaurant with three Michelin stars.

Lasarte, creativity and quality ingredients

Lasarte is considered the embassy of Martín Berasategui, where you can find his typical creative cuisine. Located in the Hotel Monument, right in the heart of Barcelona, when Martín Berasategui isn’t there (he tends to check in once a week), Lasarte is under the management of chef Paolo Casagrande, whom Berasategui trusts completely. Paolo Casagrande combines Martin Berasategui’s classic star dishes (such as an apple, foie gras and European eel millefeuille) with innovative dishes created especially in Lasarte. The restaurant offers a combination of creativity with the best ingredients from the sea and the current season, local to the area of Barcelona and the Basque Country. We are proud to be able to say that many of Lasarte’s dishes are presented on our crockery.

The gastronomic territory of Girona

The fact that the gala took place in Girona is no coincidence, as this is where the world’s best chef and last year’s world’s best restaurant are based. In fact, this territory, together with Barcelona, the Valencian Community, the Community of Madrid and the Basque Country, are the regions with the most three Michelin star establishments on the Iberian peninsula. At Pordamsa we were particularly excited that the event would be taking place close to our home, La Bisbal d’Empordà, which is only 30km from Girona.

We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate all the restaurants that have received this recognition.
